Cheers to the bride-to-be

There is much to be decided in the lead up to the big event and for the leading lady that also includes choosing between a hen’s party and a bridal shower.

These pre-wedding rituals are all about celebrating the bride-to-be and are usually organised by the maid of honour or a close friend or family member.

It’s up to the guest of honour to decide if she would rather kick off her heels at a hen’s party or sit back and relax at bridal shower.        

Hen’s party

Traditionally the last hurrah, a hen’s party is often associated with debauchery.

While for many this may be a wild night out with girlfriends, complete with X-rated entertainment, daring games and dancing.

Gone are the days of a one size fits all approach to organising a hen’s party.

At its core, it is an opportunity for the bride-to-be to let her hair down before the wedding nerves kick in and celebrate with her closest friends.

So why not plan a hen’s night that fits the bride-to-be’s personality?

The options are endless: a wine tour, a weekend at the beach, a boat cruise, a cocktail making class, dinner at a fancy restaurant, yoga retreat or pole dancing lessons.  

Bridal shower

For a more restrained approach to the pre-wedding celebrations, a bridal shower is in order.

From grandmothers to the future mother-in-law, this is the perfect day to include relatives that may feel uncomfortable at a hen’s party.

Complete with afternoon tea, sparkling wine and family friendly games, a bridal shower is a chance for the guest-of-hour to unwind and rejuvenate before the big day.

Traditionally hosted at the bride-to-be’s family home; friends and family gather with gifts and advice.   

As any event a bridal shower can be tailored to suit the leading lady’s interests.

Consider hosting a kitchen tea where guests bring a recipe card, a high tea, a pamper day either at home or a spa, flower crown making class, DIY decorations for the wedding or play lawn games.

Why not have both?

For the bride-to-be who can’t decide between a hen’s night and a bridal shower, there is no reason you can’t have both.

In fact it’s a great way to involve all the important women in your life.

You could start the day with a morning tea for all and then finish the day with a night on the town with friends, or host two completely separate events.
